After the 2025 Belgian Grand Prix Sprint Race, Lewis Hamilton made a rather enigmatic statement regarding Ferrari’s updates and Charles Leclerc. At the conclusion of the Sprint Race at the Belgian Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton honestly analyzed his complicated Saturday behind the wheel of the Ferrari SF-25, which was different but not entirely unlike the experience of his teammate Charles Leclerc. The seven-time Formula 1 World Champion commented on his initial impressions of the new suspension package, introduced specifically at Spa-Francorchamps, and openly acknowledged his responsibility for the mistake he made on track.
“It was very useful to do laps with this new package. It was the first time I tried it over a full distance and, in part, I can say I am very grateful to the team for bringing such important upgrades,” said Lewis Hamilton, emphasizing the importance of collecting real data on a complex and technical circuit such as the Belgian track.
He then added a somewhat cryptic detail. “Part of this update had already been tried by Charles Leclerc in Montreal, but I practically only tried it yesterday.”
Braking Mistake: Lewis Hamilton Takes Responsibility
The key moment in his Sprint Race was a rear wheel lock-up that compromised his result. Without making excuses, Lewis Hamilton admitted the error: “In the end, I made the wrong adjustments and probably applied too much brake pressure. The responsibility is clear. It almost felt like I forgot how to brake, but honestly, I had never locked up the rear wheels in my entire career before.”
This was a new situation for Lewis Hamilton, requiring a very delicate brake balance to find: “The brake balance was quite difficult to manage. I always had understeer on entry and then issues on exit under braking. These are all things you don’t want to have. You need to find the right compromise between what is needed on corner entry and what is required for traction on the exit.”
Work on the New Setup Remains a Priority
Lewis Hamilton explained that, with the current Formula 1 cars, finding that perfect compromise is especially challenging, but the team is continuing to work hard to extract the maximum potential from the new package.
“It’s not very feasible with this year’s cars, but we are trying to work in that direction,” the British driver concluded, sending a strong signal of determination ahead of Sunday’s main race.
