The Singapore weekend for Ferrari did not go as expected. On Thursday, during media day, even Charles Leclerc had expressed confidence that he would finish ahead of the Mercedes drivers. Although the Scuderia did not have the pace to challenge for the win, Maranello was certain it could outperform George Russell and Oscar Piastri.
However, the story unfolded differently. As everyone knows, it was the British driver who crossed the finish line first on Sunday, while the two Ferrari drivers ended the race in sixth and seventh positions. Hamilton then dropped to eighth due to a five-second penalty handed down by the race stewards for exceeding track limits during the penultimate lap.
In a weekend where McLaren celebrated its tenth Constructors’ Championship, the Italian team experienced one of its toughest weekends, drawing significant criticism from the media. This result only compounded a difficult week for Lewis Hamilton, which had already started on a tragic note. His loyal canine companion, Roscoe, had passed away just eight days earlier due to pneumonia.
After returning from Singapore, the seven-time world champion took a few moments to share a message reflecting on the past week, beginning with his personal loss and concluding with an analysis of the Grand Prix and his outlook for the future. Hamilton wrote: “After a difficult week, it’s nice to be home. I’ve had some time to reflect on my trip to Singapore, and the primary emotion I feel is gratitude. The support and love I’ve received since losing Roscoe have been a powerful reminder that, even when things seem dark, there is so much goodness in the world. You just have to look for it.”
He then turned his attention to the on-track events: “Media headlines only tell one version of the story—the version where we fail to execute properly or things don’t go our way. But what I’ve focused on in recent months is the other version: how this team responds when things go wrong, how we get back up and push forward. Yesterday, we had a perfect example of that. Our strategy was spot on, but the brake issue slowed us down just as we were gaining momentum. Now, we go back to the factory, learn from this race, and plan for the next one.”
Lewis Hamilton continued: “I’m truly proud of this team and I want to help them achieve the results they and the fans deserve. I see the progress we are making and the hard work behind every race, but this is Ferrari. Progress alone is not enough. To reach greatness, we have to go further, be better. There is so much we can achieve together, and if we build on our successes and fix what needs to be fixed, I am fully confident that we will succeed.”
He concluded his message with a heartfelt “Forza Ferrari,” signaling hope not only for the remainder of the 2025 season but, more importantly, for 2026, when the team will face the debut of new technical regulations.
