Lewis Hamilton’s journey with Ferrari appears to have reached a crucial turning point, one that many fans had been eagerly waiting for. After a challenging debut season, the seven-time Formula 1 world champion now seems revitalized, showing signs of a strong comeback that is reigniting hope among the Tifosi.
The 2025 season proved to be a difficult chapter for Lewis Hamilton, shaped not only by his own adaptation process but also by a Scuderia Ferrari that did not always meet expectations. After spending the majority of his legendary career with Mercedes, the British driver faced the complex task of adjusting to a completely new environment, both technically and culturally. Such a transition inevitably came with obstacles, as Hamilton had to familiarize himself with a different car philosophy, new engineering approaches, and a distinct team dynamic.
Lewis Hamilton himself never hid these struggles. On multiple occasions, he emphasized that 2026 would represent a fresh start—a necessary reset to approach what could potentially be the final major chapter of his career in Formula 1. Early signs from the opening races of the 2026 season seem to confirm this shift. The version of Hamilton seen on track now appears significantly different compared to last year, benefiting not only from renewed confidence but also from a more competitive SF-26, a car capable of putting real pressure on Mercedes.
Former drivers praise Hamilton’s transformation
The change in Lewis Hamilton’s performance has not gone unnoticed within the paddock. Speaking on the Stay On Track podcast, former world champion Damon Hill highlighted the transformation in clear terms:
“He went very low, rebuilt himself and came back with an extra gear. It’s clear that it helps to smell the possibility. I’ve always said it: give him a real chance to win, and suddenly you will see a different person. He needs to have a car he can exploit, and it seems that he is very comfortable with these regulations. The way the downforce generates grip, the balance of the car, seems to be something he can really play with. There’s a lot of movement, right? They’re not glued to the ground like the previous cars.”
Johnny Herbert echoed a similar view, underlining how the new generation of cars may suit Lewis Hamilton’s driving style far better than the previous era:
“I saw a comment where he said that he can be more aggressive. With the ground-effect cars, he didn’t feel he could do that. As soon as you reached the limit, you would fall off a cliff. The car was very difficult to drive.”
These observations reinforce a growing perception within the Formula 1 world: Lewis Hamilton has managed to overcome the difficulties that defined his early Ferrari experience and is now entering a new phase with renewed competitiveness. The improved balance and drivability of the SF-26 appear to have unlocked a more aggressive and confident approach, allowing him to extract more performance from the car.
For Ferrari, this transformation could prove decisive in the fight against rivals Mercedes. For Lewis Hamilton, it represents something even more significant—the opportunity to redefine his legacy in red and give full meaning to what was once described as the “transfer of the century.”
The question now is whether this resurgence can translate into consistent results and victories. If the current trajectory is maintained, both Ferrari and the Briton may finally be ready to write a new and successful chapter together.
