Lewis Hamilton has revealed that he never lost his self-confidence during a grueling 2025 campaign, asserting that he has successfully navigated what he considers the “greatest test” of his professional career. The seven-time World Champion faced unprecedented scrutiny during his transition to Maranello, but his recent form suggests a significant turning point.
During his debut season with Ferrari, Lewis Hamilton endured a statistical anomaly in his storied career, failing to secure a single Grand Prix podium for the first time ever. The frustration of that period was palpable; after a disappointing 12th-place qualifying result in Hungary, a self-critical Hamilton went as far as to describe himself as “useless” and even suggested that Ferrari should consider looking at other drivers. To make matters worse, he suffered three consecutive Q1 exits for the first time since 2009.
However, following the opening rounds of the 2026 season, the Briton appears to have undergone a total rebirth. Seemingly more in tune with the driving characteristics of the new generation of cars, the British driver finally secured his first podium for the Scuderia in China, signaling that his pace has returned.
Reflecting on how he managed to overcome the dark days of 2025, Lewis Hamilton explained: “I didn’t lose my self-confidence last year. This is a natural part of the process for an athlete. We have all gone through seasons like that; they are the most challenging periods you can face.”
“But the most important thing is getting back up, and that is what I have done this year. No one did that for me; I achieved it myself. It was the greatest test an athlete could possibly face,” Lewis Hamilton added, highlighting the mental fortitude required to stay at the top of the sport.
“The real question is whether you can return to your best level and keep fighting despite the obstacles you encounter. I am proud to have reached this point, but there is still a long road ahead of us. We are well aware that this season will be very difficult. I am trying to prepare myself both physically and mentally so that I can sustain the performance I’ve shown so far this year.”
The veteran driver also emphasized the importance of collective progress within the team as they chase the front-runners: “At the same time, we want to work with the team at the factory and with Charles Leclerc to develop the team in the right direction, close the gap, and be able to fight for race wins.”
In summary, Lewis Hamilton’s journey through the 2025 season highlights the resilience required to compete at the highest level of motorsport. His ability to rebuild his form and confidence ahead of the 2026 regulations underscores why he remains one of the most formidable competitors on the Formula 1 grid today.
