F1 | Hamilton helped Norris win the championship: Lewis’s revelation after the Abu Dhabi GP
Lewis Hamilton crowned Lando Norris after the British driver clinched his first Formula 1 world championship at the conclusion of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
For many years, the Union Jack was often raised by Lewis Hamilton, who, at the end of the Abu Dhabi GP, had nothing but praise for Lando Norris. The McLaren driver managed the advantage he built throughout the season, ultimately crossing the line in third place — a finish that secured him the championship.
Did Lewis Hamilton support Lando in the final weeks?
Lewis Hamilton addressed this question in his final interview of the 2025 season, revealing the support he provided to the McLaren driver in the closing weeks. “I didn’t want to say too much, I just wanted to say I’m really happy for him. Winning your first world championship is really special, and the UK keeps producing great drivers. I also think I know what it feels like when you arrive at this race fighting for your first championship — it’s nerve-wracking. I’m really proud of him. I told him before the weekend that what he was doing was working, so he shouldn’t change anything. And I believe that’s exactly what he did,” said the seven-time world champion now at Ferrari.
With those few words of reassurance from the most successful driver in F1 history, Lando Norris went on to deliver a calm, controlled weekend and become the first new world champion in four years – proof that sometimes even your rivals can play a small part in writing history.
