On the eve of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton spoke about an aspect that caught him by surprise during a 2025 full of challenges for Ferrari.
He had imagined his debut with the Scuderia in a very different way. Instead, Lewis Hamilton found himself navigating a season in which Ferrari displayed significant difficulties, arriving in Abu Dhabi with the certainty of finishing fourth in the Constructors’ Championship. This result fell short of the expectations set at the beginning of the year and of the achievements from the previous season, when the championship remained undecided until the final race.
Lewis Hamilton surprised by himself
This situation led the seven-time World Champion to experience the toughest season of his career. Despite this, the former Mercedes driver revealed that he was still surprised by himself during his first year at Ferrari. “I have always worked hard on resilience, and I believe everyone should do the same. Building a mindset that keeps you from giving up can make all the difference in certain situations. I am human too, and there are days when I don’t feel like getting into the car. But I have to, and this mindset allows me to put my helmet on and give my best,” Lewis Hamilton said during a CFI event in Dubai ahead of the final round of the 2025 Formula 1 season, the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
“I’m learning to believe that even the hardest moments will pass. Looking at this season, for example, I was surprised by my own ability to stay standing despite everything that happened,” Lewis Hamilton explained.
For a driver who has won more than 100 grands prix and seven world titles, admitting there were days he didn’t want to climb aboard the SF-25 speaks volumes about how difficult 2025 has been. Yet Lewis Hamilton’s reflection also underlines why he remains one of the sport’s greatest ever competitors: even in the darkest seasons he finds a way to keep pushing – and now he heads into the all-important 2026 regulation reset determined to turn the page.
