Former Ferrari boss and current F1 figurehead Stefano Domenicali has offered a crucial tip to Lewis Hamilton: to truly connect with the passionate team at Maranello, he’ll need to conquer their native language. With his highly anticipated two-year tenure at Ferrari on the horizon, the British racing legend—who signed the deal nearly a year ago—has already begun tackling this challenge by enrolling in Italian lessons.
As Hamilton prepares to bid farewell to his Mercedes legacy and embrace Ferrari’s iconic red, the importance of adapting to the team’s deeply rooted national identity cannot be overstated. Unlike competitors such as Mercedes and Red Bull, whose operations are largely based in the UK, Ferrari’s core remains unmistakably Italian. This cultural foundation is reflected in the team’s personnel, many of whom hail from Italy and bring a distinctly Italian approach to engineering and innovation. Domenicali emphasized that for Hamilton to succeed, bridging this linguistic gap is essential.
In an interview with *Autoracer*, the Italian manager underscored the significance of immersing oneself in Ferrari’s unique culture and values, leaving no doubt that mastering the language is a pivotal step in Hamilton’s journey: “He will bring a lot of interest. He is learning to speak Italian and to understand how to integrate into our culture. I told him, it is fundamental for him to be able to do this as well. In Ferrari he will find a different environment than before.”
Strong rapport between teammates is a cornerstone of any successful F1 team, and Lewis Hamilton will need to swiftly build a solid connection with Charles Leclerc. Leclerc, who has been with Ferrari since 2019, is not only deeply familiar with the team’s inner workings but is also fluent in Italian—a skill he frequently demonstrates during radio communications. Stefano Domenicali has shared his thoughts on the relationship between Hamilton and Leclerc, emphasizing that “Charles will obviously have to accept that having someone like Lewis in the house will not be an easy partner. At the same time Lewis will definitely have the ability to transmit this positivity of his in trying to achieve his record. He has it as clear as if it were on the centre bar of the Halo. They love each other very much and I hope they will love each other again at the end of the year.”
Charles Leclerc, despite often setting the pace at the front of the grid, has yet to mount a sustained challenge for the championship. With eight Grand Prix victories under his belt during his tenure with Scuderia Ferrari, the Monegasque driver now finds himself alongside a teammate who brings the weight and experience of multiple world titles. The Ferrari driver said that he would be very curious to see what Lewis Hamilton had done right throughout his career to achieve all the success he had. He mentioned that Lewis had very few weaknesses, and he actually didn’t know of any. He added that it would be very interesting for him to learn from Lewis, as much as it would be to show what he was capable of in the same car. These two things motivated him a lot.
