Lewis Hamilton concluded his home race at the 2025 Formula 1 British Grand Prix at Silverstone with a positive outlook and several clear takeaways to bring back to the Scuderia Ferrari team. Once again, the seven-time world champion came within touching distance of the podium, finishing just short of third place after a fierce battle, ultimately conceding the position to a sensational Sauber performance from Nico Hülkenberg.
Despite narrowly missing out on the top three, Lewis Hamilton left Silverstone with encouraging signs. In his post-race interview with Sky Sport, the British driver addressed the current struggles of the Ferrari SF-25 and shared his thoughts on what must change moving forward.
“We have no stability,” Lewis Hamilton said. “The car just doesn’t stay settled. We wish it would be more stable, especially in the low-speed corners where it becomes very difficult to turn in. It’s also hard to find the right balance. You’re constantly trying to adjust something, but it’s extremely complicated. I believe we also lost several positions due to strategy — maybe three or four — and that made our race much harder than it should have been.”
Despite these difficulties, the Ferrari driver remained hopeful. “But we managed to fight back, and we’re aiming for a better result at the next race,” he added, showing his trademark resilience.
Once again, it was a podium just out of reach. So how does Lewis Hamilton reflect on his weekend at Silverstone?
“I think the most positive aspect was practice. I was right up there at the front,” Lewis Hamilton explained. “I was happy with the car’s balance in dry conditions. In qualifying, we were much stronger, and I felt much more comfortable with the setup we chose. It just wasn’t suited for these mixed weather conditions.”
However, what stood out most was Lewis Hamilton’s belief that this race helped him better understand the Ferrari SF-25 — and what needs to be improved to make it a winning car. “Even in a race like this, even if things didn’t go perfectly, there are a lot of insights to take away,” he said firmly. “I think I now know exactly what I need to explain to the team — what I don’t want to have in the car moving forward.” – the seven-time Formula 1 world champion pointed out.
To conclude, Lewis Hamilton acknowledged just how difficult the SF-25 has been to drive, especially under variable weather conditions. “What we have right now makes the car very hard to handle — particularly in conditions like today. I know it was tough for everyone out there, but for us, it was even more difficult.”
