During the 2025 Brazilian Grand Prix weekend in São Paulo, Lewis Hamilton joined forces with his former on-track rival and friend Sebastian Vettel in a meaningful environmental campaign. The two Formula 1 world champions took part in Vettel’s initiative, “Forest – Drawn Together”, a project designed to raise awareness about the ongoing deforestation of the Amazon rainforest.
Hamilton, Vettel, and several other Formula 1 drivers — including Max Verstappen and Pierre Gasly — took a creative approach to activism by sketching trees on paper as part of the symbolic event. The drawings represent a call to action to protect the world’s largest rainforest, which continues to face alarming levels of destruction. The project was inspired by Vettel’s own expedition to the Amazon in 2024, where he personally witnessed the impact of illegal logging and environmental degradation.
Hamilton praises Vettel’s leadership and passion for global causes
Speaking about the campaign, Lewis Hamilton praised Vettel’s continued dedication to global environmental issues. He highlighted how his former rival remains one of the few figures in motorsport who actively uses his platform to drive positive change. “Seb’s passion for protecting the planet is truly inspiring. He’s one of the few people in this sport who continues to speak up about what really matters,” Lewis Hamilton said during the event.
The Ferrari driver also underlined the importance of climate awareness in Brazil, a country that plays a crucial role in preserving global biodiversity. The Briton added that the fight against deforestation should not be limited to symbolic gestures but must inspire concrete action and responsibility at every level, from governments to individuals.
A Senna tribute and a heartfelt connection with Brazil
In addition to his environmental efforts, Lewis Hamilton also unveiled a special Ayrton Senna tribute helmet for the São Paulo weekend. The design paid homage to the late Brazilian legend, reflecting Lewis Hamilton’s admiration and emotional bond with the driver who inspired his own Formula 1 journey. The helmet, featuring Senna’s iconic yellow and green colors, was a celebration of both Senna’s legacy and Lewis Hamilton’s first season racing for Ferrari.
Lewis Hamilton described competing in Brazil as something deeply personal, calling it one of the most emotional races of the year. His connection with the Brazilian fans has always been strong, and this year’s gesture further strengthened that bond. Between his collaboration with Sebastian Vettel on environmental awareness and his heartfelt tribute to Ayrton Senna, the seven-time world champion once again showed his ability to blend sporting excellence with genuine advocacy and respect for the country that continues to celebrate him as one of its own.
The Brazilian Grand Prix weekend thus became more than just another chapter in the Formula 1 calendar — it stood as a reminder that sport, when united with purpose, can amplify the message of change far beyond the racetrack.
