Lewis Hamilton has received a permanent honour at the Hungaroring, where Turn 2 has officially been named after the Ferrari driver during celebrations marking 40 years since the circuit hosted its first Formula 1 race. As the record eight-time Hungarian Grand Prix winner, Lewis Hamilton is also the only active F1 driver to have a corner at the Hungaroring named in his honour.
It is a time of celebration at the Budapest circuit. The 2026 Hungarian Grand Prix has yet to take place, but Ferrari has already made a very encouraging start to the weekend. The anniversary commemorates the inaugural Formula 1 race held at the distinctive circuit 40 years ago, beginning a history in which the Hungaroring has often provided opportunities for unexpected winners.

After Nigel Mansell and Jean Alesi, seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton has also left his handprints at the circuit, as shown in a video published on Formula 1’s social media channels. The Ferrari driver’s handprints will be cast in concrete and permanently installed in the Hungaroring’s run-off area.
The tribute recognises Lewis Hamilton’s exceptional Hungarian Grand Prix record. No other active Formula 1 driver currently has a corner at the circuit bearing his name.

Lewis Hamilton has won at the Hungaroring more times than any other driver, securing eight victories. His first three Hungarian Grand Prix wins came with McLaren, followed by another five with Mercedes.
Lewis Hamilton now hopes to add a Hungarian victory with Ferrari. Over the past 20 years, the Italian team has won only twice at the Hungaroring, with Sebastian Vettel claiming both victories. Ferrari currently appears capable of challenging with both cars, as Charles Leclerc also made an excellent start to the opening day after previously discussing Ferrari’s prospects at the Hungaroring.
