Lewis Hamilton sees learning opportunities amid Ferrari’s challenging 2025 season
Lewis Hamilton has highlighted a rare positive aspect amid what has been a difficult first season with Scuderia Ferrari. The seven-time Formula 1 World Champion is still waiting to stand on the podium for the Italian team, yet he believes the challenges of 2025 are offering valuable lessons for both himself and the team.
Ferrari entered the 2025 season with high expectations, aiming to challenge for both the Drivers’ and Constructors’ Championships. However, the Maranello outfit has struggled to match the pace of leaders like McLaren and Red Bull Racing, leaving Lewis Hamilton consistently behind team-mate Charles Leclerc in qualifying and race results. Despite this, Lewis Hamilton has emphasized the crucial support he has received from team principal Fred Vasseur, whose guidance played a key role in convincing him to leave Mercedes for Ferrari.
Lewis Hamilton conveyed that Fred Vasseur’s backing has been a significant morale boost. The seven-time Formula 1 world champion explained that although the season has not gone according to plan, the experience has provided essential learning opportunities. He pointed out that the team is gradually becoming more cohesive and united, which he considers a key step toward future success.
Looking ahead to the 2026 season, Lewis Hamilton highlighted the potential presented by the new technical regulations. Ferrari, he noted, has the chance to leverage the lessons learned this year to return to the front of the grid. The team has not secured a Formula 1 championship since 2008, and the Briton stressed that the struggles of 2025 can be turned into an advantage if addressed in time.
The British driver also emphasized that experiencing difficulties now, when Ferrari is not in contention for a title, is preferable to encountering similar issues at critical moments in a championship battle. By learning from every race, both the drivers and engineers can identify weaknesses and implement improvements before Ferrari resumes a serious title challenge.
Lewis Hamilton pointed out that the team is fully aware of its shortcomings and is intensely focused on improving every aspect of the car’s performance. He framed 2025 as a developmental season where each race provides valuable data and insights, which will be instrumental in preparing for next year’s campaign. In his view, the experience gained during this difficult year will strengthen both drivers and the team as a whole, ultimately positioning Ferrari to compete at the highest level once the new regulations come into effect.
While the current results may be disappointing, Lewis Hamilton’s perspective underscores the importance of learning and unity within Ferrari. He remains optimistic that the challenges of this season will serve as a foundation for success, with the lessons from 2025 guiding Ferrari as it seeks to reclaim its place at the top of Formula 1 in 2026 and beyond.
