Lewis Hamilton has same feelings as in 2013 amid Ferrari F1 move: "A leap of faith"

After two days of silence, Lewis Hamilton has finally spoken about his move to Scuderia Ferrari and his decision to leave Mercedes at the end of the 2024 Formula 1 campaign. He does it with a very long post on his social media profiles, with an emotional tone but also very respectful towards Mercedes, his home for 11 long years.

“I feel incredibly fortunate, after achieving things with Mercedes that I could only dream of as a child, to now have the opportunity to fulfill another childhood dream. Driving in Ferrari red.” This is how the seven-time world champion’s post begins. He then retraces the milestones of his years at Mercedes.

“Mercedes has been an important part of my life since I was 13, so this decision has been the most difficult I have ever had to make. I am incredibly proud of everything we have achieved together, and I am very grateful for the commitment and dedication of everyone I have worked with over the years.” – he pointed out in his recent statement

Then, of course, his thoughts go to his lifelong friend Toto Wolff and the legend Niki Lauda. “I cannot thank Toto enough for his friendship, guidance, and leadership. Together we won titles, broke records, and became the most successful Driver-Team partnership in the history of F1. And, of course, I cannot forget Niki, who was a great supporter and whom I still miss every day.” – the seven-time Formula 1 world champion continued.

Then come the comments about the new challenge with the Maranello team, starting from the 2025 F1 season: “It was the right time for a change and to face a new challenge. I still remember the feeling of taking a leap of faith into the unknown when I entered Mercedes for the first time in 2013. I am excited to see what I can bring to this new opportunity and what we can achieve together.” – the British driver added.

Finally, a necessary clarification. “At this moment, I am not thinking about 2025. My goal is the upcoming season, and getting back on track with Mercedes. I am more motivated than ever, fitter and more focused than ever, and I want to help Mercedes win once again.”
