Lewis Hamilton’s first race in red at Monza ended with a solid sixth-place finish after a strong comeback. The British driver had to serve a qualifying penalty that dropped him to start from tenth position. Despite this, he delivered a strong performance that once again demonstrated his exceptional talent.
Lewis and his first Monza
Being a Ferrari driver is already special at any Grand Prix, but it is even more significant at the home race of the Scuderia. Hamilton showed a clear step forward starting from the Dutch Grand Prix, which was evident in his driving. Here are his thoughts at the end of the race:
“I think we come from a very positive weekend in terms of overall performance. I am getting to understand this car better and better: perhaps I will never feel 100% at ease, but I hope next year’s car will allow me to contribute more from the start of the weekend. Without that penalty, I could have achieved much more today, but I am confident there will be other opportunities.
It was fun, the energy from the fans was electrifying. I had seen it before, but I was not the one experiencing it: living it firsthand is a completely different story. Driving here, being here, and being able to feel it directly is something I will carry in my heart forever. I am truly very grateful to everyone who came and to all the energy that pushed us throughout the weekend.”
