Hamilton tries again: back in the simulator to prepare for Monaco
The seven-time Ferrari world champion has reversed course and returned to the simulator ahead of the Monaco Grand Prix.
“The simulator? I won’t use it anymore to prepare for races, I’m old school.” That was Lewis Hamilton’s verdict following the Canadian Grand Prix, which delivered his best race result so far with Ferrari.
After the difficulties and discrepancies experienced in Miami, where the on-track reality failed to match the simulator’s indications, the seven-time World Champion chose a different approach for Montreal. He decided in advance to skip work on Ferrari’s Maranello simulator and instead rely on a more traditional preparation method.
It was not the first time he had taken that route this season. Hamilton made the same decision before the Chinese Grand Prix, and on that occasion he went on to secure a podium finish ahead of Charles Leclerc.
However, with the Monaco Grand Prix approaching, Lewis Hamilton has already reconsidered his position. According to information gathered by ScuderiaFans.com, the British driver has decided to give the simulator another chance and has returned to working on it in the same way as Charles Leclerc.
The decision has likely been influenced by the unique characteristics of the Monaco circuit. Monte Carlo remains a one-of-a-kind challenge on the Formula 1 calendar, where driver confidence, precision and preparation can make a greater difference than at almost any other venue.
It is also a track that could provide Ferrari with a significant opportunity. At least on paper, the layout of the Principality should minimise the impact of the Scuderia’s current power deficit, placing greater emphasis on low-speed performance, traction and mechanical grip — areas where the Ferrari package has shown encouraging signs throughout the season.
For that reason, Lewis Hamilton appears willing to revisit a tool he had recently dismissed, hoping that every possible detail of preparation can help maximise Ferrari’s chances at one of the most important weekends of the year.
