Seventh position in the Miami Sprint Race for Ferrari driver Lewis Hamilton, who was unable to improve on his starting position and ultimately crossed the line in the same place where he began the race.
A disappointing Sprint
Starting from seventh on the grid, Lewis Hamilton’s Sprint Race in Miami was largely defined by a single on-track battle with Max Verstappen, which was ultimately won by the Dutchman, with little else of significance during the 19-lap race.
The British driver was unable to match the pace of his main rivals and finished exactly where he started after the lights went out, in seventh place.
The gap to race winner Lando Norris was particularly significant, with Hamilton finishing more than 21 seconds behind after just 19 laps. He was also over 15 seconds behind Ferrari teammate Charles Leclerc, who finished third on the podium.
Lewis Hamilton’s explanation
To explain such a difficult and underwhelming performance, Lewis Hamilton detailed the issues he experienced during the Sprint Race:
“I hope we can change a lot of things. Yesterday I lost 0.3 seconds just because the software was not working properly. I was driving as normal, but I was losing speed on the straights. And in the race it felt like this problem continued,” the British driver said.
Looking ahead to qualifying and the main race, Lewis Hamilton expressed hope that the team will be able to resolve the issue in time:
“I think they will need to make some changes to the software or something like that, to make sure the same thing does not happen in qualifying. And we hope to have slightly better deployment,” he added.
In summary, Lewis Hamilton’s P7 finish in the Miami Sprint was marred by technical frustrations, specifically a software malfunction that hindered his top speed and left him unable to challenge the front-runners, placing the focus on a necessary fix before the main race starts.
