Seven-time Formula 1 champion Lewis Hamilton took time away from the track to immerse himself in China’s breathtaking natural and cultural landscapes ahead of the Shanghai Grand Prix. Sharing a heartfelt video on Douyin, the Briton highlighted the turquoise lakes, snow-capped peaks, cascading waterfalls, and the clean, fresh air of Jiuzhaigou National Park, describing it as one of the most beautiful places he has ever visited.
Lewis Hamilton traveled to the region straight after the Australian Grand Prix with his mother, making a detour from the bustling city of Shanghai to explore the heart of Sichuan province. The seven-time champion went horseback riding through the forests, visited local museums, and explored small Tibetan villages, soaking in both the scenic beauty and the cultural richness of the area.
“你好吗! I’m here in China, I came out early, as soon as I could straight after the Australian Grand Prix. I flew here with my mum, we flew to Shanghai and then straight out to the middle of nowhere, and I’m in Jiuzhaigou National Forest, which is the most beautiful place I’ve ever seen. There’s mountains everywhere, beautiful blue lagoons everywhere,” Lewis Hamilton shared in his Douyin video.
“I just never thought… I’d seen pictures of China, but I really wanted to explore and see more than just the cities. The air is so fresh, so clean—I feel reenergized from this place. It’s beautiful and special, and I wanted to share it with the world. There’s so much depth in the culture: museums, local artists, artisans, and these tiny Tibetan villages that we visited,” he added.
Beyond sightseeing, the Briton used the visit as a way to recharge mentally and physically for his second season with Ferrari. “I feel incredibly blessed and fortunate to have had the chance to come here before the race weekend. I just want to send you love. Thank you so much for supporting me for these 20 years in F1. I hope I can make you proud this year and especially this weekend. 谢谢,” he said.
Lewis Hamilton’s off-track adventures highlight how top F1 drivers balance intense competition with personal rejuvenation and cultural exploration. Moments like these also help fans connect with their heroes beyond the racetrack, showcasing the human side of elite athletes while building anticipation for the upcoming race at Shanghai International Circuit.
With the season in full swing, this trip to Jiuzhaigou may provide Lewis Hamilton with the calm and focus needed to tackle the technical challenges of the Shanghai Grand Prix, demonstrating that even champions find inspiration and energy in the world beyond the circuit.
