Hamilton not convinced by potential rule changes
Among the many opinions shared by Formula 1 drivers in Suzuka regarding possible regulatory changes, the comments made by Lewis Hamilton certainly stood out. The Ferrari driver appeared particularly discouraged by the power deficit compared to the Mercedes engine and hinted that he is not expecting any major breakthroughs from the key meetings scheduled for April. The Briton is well aware that each team will attempt to push its own agenda, making it extremely difficult to reach a balanced compromise that satisfies everyone involved.
Lewis Hamilton explained: “I don’t expect much, I hope some important changes can be made. But there will be too many chefs in that kitchen. And usually when that happens, the result is never the best…,” sighed the seven-time Formula 1 world champion. The Ferrari driver had also voiced frustration over the absence of drivers from the decision-making table regarding rule changes. However, his concerns were not addressed, as no driver representatives are expected to take part in the upcoming meetings.
Three key meetings scheduled in April
The New York Times has revealed that discussions surrounding the 2026 regulations will be structured across three separate phases during April. On Thursday, April 9, and Thursday, April 16, the Formula 1 Technical Advisory Committee will meet, bringing together all 11 teams, the five power unit manufacturers, and the technical department of Formula 1.
During these two meetings, all available data from the first three race weekends of the 2026 season will be carefully analyzed, and proposals will be put forward to improve the on-track spectacle. It has already emerged that particular attention will be given to qualifying sessions, as drivers have expressed frustration over their reduced ability to push at the absolute limit under the current regulations.
Following these discussions, a final vote on the proposed changes will take place on Monday, April 20, with the aim of implementing any approved adjustments as early as the Miami Grand Prix at the beginning of May.
