However, Saturday brought a shift in fortunes. The third practice session exposed vulnerabilities in the SF-25, leaving Ferrari to prepare for a challenging qualifying session. Lewis Hamilton was eliminated in Q2, while Charles Leclerc crashed in Q1, relegating him to start from tenth on the grid.
The race itself proved even more difficult. The Ferrari struggled to find pace, and the opportunity to fight for a top-five finish vanished early on. Despite some signs of recovery, including the Briton setting the fastest lap on hard tires, the overall performance was disappointing.
Lewis Hamilton speaks out post-race
Speaking to Sky Sport F1, Lewis Hamilton shared his post-race thoughts, sending a clear message to Ferrari: “Internally, we will analyze what we could have done better because clearly, something didn’t work as we hoped. Yesterday, we should have worked with more precision to prepare for the race.”
On his feeling behind the wheel of the SF-25 in Baku, the British driver added: “I felt the car was better than on other occasions, but our rivals were also very fast. It was difficult to stay in their slipstream and find the right opportunity to overtake.”
Lewis Hamilton expressed his disappointment at leaving Baku empty-handed. The sense inside Ferrari was that they could—and should—have aimed higher: “We expected more,” he concluded, reflecting on what was a frustrating and underwhelming weekend for the Scuderia.
