Miami didn’t bring much joy to the Maranello team, which came off worse in the battle with rivals after a lackluster weekend, slightly sweetened by Sir Lewis’s podium in Saturday’s Sprint. Hamilton, who finished eighth in Sunday’s Grand Prix, chose to go against the tide, declaring himself optimistic about a Ferrari that, to many, looks increasingly beyond saving.
On one side of the garage, Charles Leclerc is faltering and speaking through bewildered silences; on the other side, Lewis Hamilton is trying to shake the team awake. The Stevenage champion, who finished the Miami GP over a minute behind Oscar Piastri, is showing positivity for the future.
Lewis Hamilton believes in Ferrari’s potential: “It’s there, I’m optimistic”
“In general, it was a good day for me, even if it might not look like it, given the eighth place,” said the 1985-born driver. Lewis Hamilton isn’t giving up on this Ferrari, whose potential remains a mystery: “I feel optimistic for the future. I think the car really has performance. There’s something holding us back at the moment; we’ve lost competitiveness since China.” – he pointed out.
“The performance is there, it’s just that we can’t unlock it,” says a Sir Lewis going against the current. “Until we find a solution, the situation will stay like this.”
After a week of intense work in Maranello leading up to the Miami weekend, Lewis Hamilton feels more at ease in the Ferrari. “After the simulator sessions last week, I feel like I had a better GP… even if we’re fighting with Williams here, so clearly we’re not as fast as we’d like to be.”
Lewis Hamilton presents himself as optimistic to the media for the rest of the season, which is approaching a critical turning point. The Prancing Horse will already bring some updates in Imola, before deploying the more substantial package in Catalunya. There, where the FIA will also introduce a new technical directive, the cards will be laid on the table and it will become clearer what the rest of 2025 holds for Ferrari. Despite Miami’s disorienting performances, Hamilton doesn’t want to give up on this SF-25: will the team be able to unlock at least part of that potential “which for now can’t be exploited” in Imola?
