Lewis Hamilton’s relationship with Scuderia Ferrari could extend well beyond the track: will the Scuderia adopt a black livery? In the past, Mercedes had already sported this color.
This happened in 2020, when, during the championship, the world champion persuaded the Silver Arrows to dress in black to send a strong message against racism. This color remained the following year, then in 2022, the silver color that we all know returned. This year, the chassis design is a combination of the two colors.
According to some, Lewis Hamilton might try to convince Ferrari to adopt a black livery for his first year with the team. The Briton talked about the topic on the eve of the past Canadian Grand Prix, clarifying some points.
The Mercedes driver hinted that his relationship with president John Elkann is more likely to manifest off the track. However, he did not rule out the possibility of a color change for the iconic Maranello team: “I haven’t driven a black car in a while. I probably won’t push too hard for something like that anytime soon.” – he pointed out.
Lewis Hamilton made it clear that with the Ferrari president, there has been much discussion about his “impact” on a human level. “John and I will work closely with Mission 44 and everything related to them.” Reiterating the concept that Formula 1 and sports, in general, “must continue to do more,” Lewis is convinced that “outside,” he and Ferrari will do “a lot together, so it’s really exciting.”
Lewis Hamilton’s comments come after the FIA’s proposal to push for “distinguishable” liveries to help the public recognize the cars.
