Lewis Hamilton says Ferrari deserved Canadian GP podium after tough weekend
Lewis Hamilton was full of appreciation for Ferrari after securing second place in the Canadian Grand Prix, describing the result as a deserved reward for the work completed across a demanding weekend in Montreal.
The seven-time Formula 1 world champion delivered one of his strongest performances since joining Ferrari, converting a difficult weekend into a valuable podium finish. Speaking over the team radio after the race, the British driver made it clear that the result meant a great deal not only to him, but also to the wider Ferrari operation.
“That was tough this weekend. Definitely the result we deserved,” Lewis Hamilton said over the radio. “Thank you so much to everyone back at the factory. Let’s keep pushing. This is a good step. Let’s keep working to try and close the gap.”
For Ferrari, the Canadian Grand Prix represented an important sign of progress. Lewis Hamilton’s second place showed that the Scuderia had the pace and execution to fight near the front, even if there is still work to do before consistently challenging for victories.
The message from Lewis Hamilton was also significant because it underlined the atmosphere inside the Maranello team. Rather than presenting the podium as an isolated result, he framed it as part of a longer development path, with Ferrari still focused on reducing the gap to its main rivals.
Montreal has often rewarded drivers who combine precision, tyre management and confidence under braking, and Lewis Hamilton’s performance ticked all three boxes. After a weekend that required patience and resilience, his P2 finish gave Ferrari a strong points return and a morale boost at a key stage of the season.
While the result was not a victory, it carried real weight for both Lewis Hamilton and Ferrari. A second-place finish in the Canadian Grand Prix confirmed that the team is moving in the right direction, but the radio message also made clear that the target remains much bigger: closing the performance gap and putting Ferrari back in regular contention for wins.
