Lewis Hamilton has played down the idea that Max Verstappen’s eye-catching appearance at the Nürburgring 24 Hours has sparked any immediate desire for him to follow a similar path outside Formula 1.
Max Verstappen thrilled motorsport fans last weekend with his spectacular participation in the Nürburgring 24 Hours, although the adventure ended in disappointment after a technical issue denied the four-time Formula 1 world champion and his teammates in the #3 Mercedes a remarkable result at the legendary German circuit. Verstappen’s outing reignited the long-standing discussion about the old-school appeal of Formula 1 drivers testing themselves in other racing categories.
However, one driver who does not appear particularly tempted by that challenge is Max Verstappen’s long-time rival in Formula 1: Lewis Hamilton.
The Ferrari driver was one of the central figures in Thursday’s Canadian Grand Prix press conference at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, a venue that has often felt like a second home for the seven-time world champion. Unsurprisingly, one of the first questions directed at him concerned Max Verstappen’s Nürburgring adventure.
Unlike Andrea Kimi Antonelli, who recently expressed enthusiasm about potentially taking on similar endurance racing challenges in the future, Lewis Hamilton appeared far less convinced that such a move is currently on his radar.
Lewis Hamilton responds to Max Verstappen’s Nürburgring appearance
“Does Max’s participation whet my appetite? Well, no, not particularly,” Lewis Hamilton admitted honestly. “There’s definitely a part of me that, because I love the Nordschleife, would like to drive there at some point in my career. But I don’t know. It could happen, who knows. It’s not necessary, but it could happen.”
It was hardly a definitive declaration of intent, but it did leave the door slightly open for a future appearance on one of motorsport’s most iconic and demanding circuits.
For now, Lewis Hamilton’s focus remains firmly on Formula 1 and Ferrari, with the Canadian Grand Prix weekend offering another opportunity to build momentum in what continues to be a closely watched first chapter of his Maranello journey.
Lewis Hamilton’s indifferent response to Max Verstappen’s Nürburgring exploits underlines the contrasting philosophies of Formula 1’s two greatest modern icons. While Verstappen actively thrives on a relentless, multi-discipline racing diet that bounces between high-stakes sim racing, GT endurance events, and grand prix weekends, the Briton has historically channeled his off-track energy into high fashion, social activism, and creative projects. At 41 years old, the British driver understands exactly how to manage his cognitive load under a demanding calendar, meaning a grueling 24-hour endurance campaign represents an unnecessary physical risk rather than an enticing challenge. As the field prepares to tackle the technical nuances of the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, Hamilton’s measured stance proves that while he still possesses an immense respect for classic tracks like the Nordschleife, his primary competitive fire remains exclusively reserved for returning Ferrari to the absolute top step of the podium.
