Ferrari’s progress, Lewis Hamilton as an interested spectator
Mercedes is now out of the running for the 2024 Formula 1 Constructors’ Championship and finds itself as a spectator in the title race between McLaren, Ferrari and Red Bull. As a result, the final races of 2024 will serve the Brackley team to prepare for the future and bid farewell to Lewis Hamilton in the best possible way, as he will pack his bags after 12 seasons following the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
The future Ferrari driver does not want to focus on the championship battle between the Constructors, where McLaren holds a 29-point lead over a resurgent Ferrari. As a professional, he will concentrate on Mercedes until Abu Dhabi. However, Sir Lewis can only be happily impressed by the recent progress being experienced by the Scuderia.
Lewis Hamilton’s comments
“Not being in the championship fight is not something we like, but we knew it would be difficult. I am grateful for the results we have achieved, such as at Silverstone, but I am not looking at the battle between Ferrari and McLaren, although I am very interested in what my future holds. I am very impressed by Ferrari’s progress,” he said at the press conference at the Interlagos circuit ahead of the Brazilian Grand Prix.
“At the beginning of the year, if we look back at China, Red Bull had a second advantage per lap. It was incredible to see McLaren catch up first and then Ferrari; I am very encouraged by the Scuderia’s progress. I keep an eye on all the cars,” added the Briton, who then went on to comment on his expectations for the weekend. “It has been a turbulent year; the car sometimes takes steps backward in terms of performance and aerodynamics. I hope to replicate what we did in Mexico; there is definitely potential, and I hope to make the most of it on a track that has renewed asphalt.” – the seven-time Formula 1 world champion concluded.
