The English driver has been following the Winter Olympics currently taking place in Italy with particular enthusiasm.
Lewis Hamilton the underdog
The Winter Olympics in Milano-Cortina have also captured the attention of several Formula 1 drivers. Lewis Hamilton, in particular, appears to be closely following the results of the competitions and made headlines yesterday with a couple of posts on social media.
First, the Ferrari driver applauded the achievements of Team Great Britain, which has so far won only three medals at these Games, but all of them gold. He then shifted his focus to one of the most iconic and inspiring stories of the Winter Olympics: the Jamaican bobsleigh team.
Ever since its very first appearance at the Calgary 1988 Winter Olympics — an event that later inspired the famous film Cool Runnings — the Jamaican bobsleigh team has captured the collective imagination as the classic underdog story. It is the tale of outsiders chasing their moment in the spotlight, and even a global sporting icon like Hamilton has not remained immune to that narrative.

The Ferrari standard-bearer drew a direct parallel between the Caribbean team competing in what is often considered the “Formula 1 of ice” and his own personal sporting journey.
“I know exactly what it means to be the outsider who is not taken seriously,” Hamilton wrote on Instagram, reposting a photo of a Jamaican bobsleigh athlete competing in the individual event at these Games. “They (the bobsleigh team) have come so far that it’s definitely time for people to understand that this team is serious.”
Lewis Hamilton’s words underline how deeply he relates to stories of perseverance and resilience. From his early days breaking into Formula 1 to becoming one of the most successful drivers in the history of the sport, the Briton has often spoken about feeling underestimated — a theme that clearly resonates with the journey of the Jamaican bobsleigh team on the Olympic stage.
