Lewis Hamilton reiterates his trust in Ferrari, emphasising how the team does not want to give up despite a disastrous weekend in Brazil. Lewis Hamilton has repeated his confidence in Ferrari, even though everything went wrong for him at last weekend’s Brazilian Grand Prix. The British driver struggled throughout the entire weekend, from the sprint qualifying session all the way to the Sunday race. The race was compromised from the opening moments, as he was hit by Carlos Sainz in turn 1, immediately suffering damage to his car. Shortly afterwards, the seven-time world champion destroyed his front wing when he ran into the back of Franco Colapinto at the exit of the final corner.
“I really don’t know what happened in turn 1, obviously it’s not great to be hit. After that hit the car was compromised,” he told the media. “Colapinto made a mistake at the exit of the last corner, and at that moment I got a good slipstream. When I pulled out of the slipstream, I felt he was moving as well.”
Following the incident with Franco Colapinto, Ferrari decided to keep Lewis Hamilton on track, even though the British driver said the car was undriveable. It proved to be a smart choice by the Maranello team, as he was able to serve the 5-second penalty (given for the contact with Colapinto) directly in the Brazilian Grand Prix. Hamilton then retired halfway through the race, resulting in a double retirement for Ferrari.
After this Grand Prix, Ferrari has dropped to fourth place in the constructors’ standings. With three rounds still remaining, however, Lewis Hamilton admits that Ferrari has not lost sight of its goal. “It’s obviously a disaster for us, a disappointment for the whole team. I’m trying to stay optimistic. Charles did a great job in qualifying, it means our car has potential.”
“At this point I just have to believe that from all these difficulties something good can come. I’m sure we are destined for something positive in the future. Maybe we’re getting all the bad luck out of the way this year. We won’t give up.”
