Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc reveal Ferrari’s first all-electric model in historic Maranello milestone. Ferrari has officially entered the electric era.

Ferrari begins its electric future with historic unveiling by Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc

Ferrari has officially stepped into a completely new chapter in its history, with Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc presenting the first fully electric production car ever created by the Maranello manufacturer. The launch represents one of the most significant transformations in Ferrari’s modern era, as the Italian marque embraces electrification while aiming to preserve the performance DNA that has defined the Prancing Horse for decades.

After teasing interior details ahead of the official reveal, Ferrari completed the full presentation of its new electric flagship, named Ferrari Luce, in a symbolic launch event that underlined the importance of the occasion. For a company whose identity has long been built around combustion engines, unmistakable soundtracks and mechanical emotion, the move into full-electric territory marks nothing short of a strategic revolution.

Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc were placed at the center of the unveiling, highlighting Ferrari’s intent to connect its Formula 1 present with its road car future. Social media footage released by Ferrari showed both Scuderia drivers seeing the all-electric model in its final form, reinforcing the significance of the moment for the team and the wider Ferrari brand.

Unlike traditional Ferrari supercars, the Ferrari Luce introduces a dramatically different concept. The new model becomes the first Ferrari production car to combine four doors with a five-seat configuration, signalling a broader ambition beyond the classic two-seat performance formula.

The styling has been developed in collaboration with LoveFrom, the design company led by Sir Jony Ive and Marc Newson. Ferrari’s new EV adopts a sleek, futuristic silhouette shaped around a flowing glasshouse concept, delivering a profile that deliberately moves away from conventional Ferrari proportions while retaining a distinctly premium identity.

Why Ferrari chose Rome for the electric launch

The choice of Rome as the unveiling location was far from accidental. Ferrari selected the Vela di Calatrava, known as the City of Sport, for a launch deeply rooted in symbolism. The date connects directly to Ferrari’s early racing heritage, with May 25 marking the anniversary of the brand’s first official victory, achieved by the Ferrari 125 S at the Rome Grand Prix in 1947.

By linking its electric future to one of its earliest motorsport triumphs, Ferrari appeared keen to present electrification not as a departure from tradition, but as the next natural phase in its performance evolution.

Ferrari Luce performance figures underline serious ambitions

Ferrari has made it clear that electrification does not mean compromising performance. The Ferrari Luce delivers headline numbers that place it firmly among the elite high-performance EV segment.

The fully electric Ferrari is capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in just 2.5 seconds, while the sprint from 0 to 200 km/h is completed in 6.8 seconds. Top speed exceeds 310 km/h, while the total system output reaches an extraordinary 1,050 horsepower.

Range is quoted at over 530 kilometres, a figure designed to make the car more usable in real-world grand touring scenarios, while total curb weight stands at 2,260 kg—an expected challenge for high-performance EVs, though Ferrari’s engineering team has clearly focused on mitigating the drawbacks.

Advanced electric powertrain inspired by Ferrari racing technology

At the heart of the Ferrari Luce is a sophisticated four-motor architecture, with one electric motor powering each wheel. Ferrari has leveraged expertise gained from both Formula 1 and World Endurance Championship programmes to refine efficiency, control and dynamic response.

The system uses permanent magnet synchronous motors with radial flux technology derived from Ferrari’s F80 development work. Ferrari reportedly industrialised the concept after extensive testing, including hundreds of bench evaluations and multiple patented engineering solutions.

The electrical architecture runs at up to 800 volts, enabling rapid power delivery and high-speed charging performance. Rear motors produce 310 kW and 355 Nm each, while the front pair contribute 105 kW and 140 Nm respectively.

Ferrari has placed particular emphasis on torque distribution, one of the defining engineering challenges for powerful electric cars. In Launch Control mode, the rear axle can theoretically deliver immense torque multiplication through the drivetrain, helping maximise traction during hard acceleration.

Ferrari tackles the emotional challenge of EV sound

One of the most controversial questions surrounding any electric Ferrari concerns emotion—specifically sound. Ferrari has attempted to address that challenge with a proprietary acoustic system designed to preserve sensory engagement.

Engineers developed an in-house patented solution using precision accelerometers to capture vibrations generated by the rotating drivetrain in real time. The signal is then filtered and enhanced to amplify desirable frequencies, creating an engineered sound experience intended to complement performance rather than artificially replace it.

For Ferrari, maintaining emotional driver connection appears to have been a non-negotiable development target.

Battery, charging and chassis technology

The Ferrari Luce uses a bespoke battery pack developed entirely in Maranello. The system features 210 cells in series, a 159 Ah capacity, and a nickel-manganese-cobalt chemistry with high nickel content.

Total gross battery capacity stands at 122 kWh, with peak discharge power reaching 830 kW. Ferrari says fast charging capability allows 70 kWh to be replenished in approximately 20 minutes when connected to a 350 kW charging station.

Beyond straight-line performance, Ferrari has worked heavily on vehicle dynamics. The EV platform lowers the centre of gravity, while a dedicated Vehicle Control Unit coordinates powertrain and chassis responses at extremely high refresh rates.

The system integrates torque management, traction behaviour and Ferrari’s latest vehicle dynamics software, including an updated Side Slip Control architecture. Drivers can tailor behaviour through a newly introduced e-Manettino interface, adapting the car’s responses depending on conditions and driving intent.

Ferrari leadership outlines vision for the future

During the unveiling, Ferrari leadership positioned the Ferrari Luce as far more than simply a new product launch. Ferrari Chairman John Elkann described the project as the beginning of a new chapter for the company, framing it as a bold technological step that expands Ferrari’s future possibilities while remaining rooted in driving emotion.

Ferrari CEO Benedetto Vigna similarly outlined the company’s strategy of technological flexibility, suggesting Ferrari intends to offer customers multiple propulsion pathways rather than committing exclusively to one direction. According to Ferrari’s leadership, the Ferrari Luce also opens an entirely new segment for the brand while showcasing dozens of proprietary innovations.

With Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc helping introduce Ferrari’s electric future, Ferrari has sent a clear message: electrification may change the powertrain, but Maranello does not intend to abandon performance ambition.
