Age Doesn’t Matter
One of the most frequent and reasonable criticisms surrounding Lewis Hamilton’s move to Ferrari is his age. Having turned 40 on January 7, the seven-time F1 world champion is the second-oldest driver on the grid after Fernando Alonso. In recent seasons, he has seemed to lose some of the explosiveness—at least over a single lap—that had defined his career for so long.
Words from His Father
Lewis Hamilton’s first goal will be to silence his critics and those who believe the seven-time champion is on the decline. However, one person who has no doubts about Hamilton’s ability to remain a decisive force is his father, Anthony Hamilton, who was present at Fiorano for Lewis’s first outing behind the wheel of a Ferrari Formula 1 car. In an interview with the Daily Mail, Hamilton Sr. emphasized that joining Ferrari represents a fresh start for his son.
“It feels just like his first day at McLaren,” he told the English outlet, explaining that Lewis had “trained like crazy” ahead of this move and that his “focus and determination are absolute.” If Lewis Hamilton manages to secure his dream of another championship this season, not only would he become the first driver in history to win eight titles, but he would also be the third-oldest champion ever, after Juan Manuel Fangio and Giuseppe Farina.
