Italian blogger Leo Turrini, who is famously very close to proceedings at Ferrari, was interviewed by Radio 24 on Tuesday and shared his thoughts on the start of the 2019 Formula One season, pinpointing that the Maranello team’s difficulties are the result of incorrect evaluation of the concept on which the SF90 car has been built.
Leo Turrini does not think Ferrari will be able to turn things around given the already huge gap to Mercedes in the 2019 F1 standings as well as on track, after another disappointing outcome for the Italian side, who missed out on a podium finish at the Circuit de Catalunya. After four consecutive Mercedes 1-2s, hopes were high for the Spanish Grand Prix last weekend, staged at Barcelona where Scuderia Ferrari dominated the winter test season just two months ago. But on Saturday and Sunday, Mercedes were once again first and second in both qualifying and the race.
“Did you see the last Grand Prix? At one point the Safety Car came out on track..well, I say that even that Safety Car, which is a Mercedes, if it remained on the circuit after the race was resumed, it would have finished ahead of the Ferrari cars. In Formula 1, as well as in any sport, the best side wins and take credit for their achievements. For years Mercedes have been the better team. Ferrari have made a mistake with the 2019 car and this needs to be said out loud. Ferrari is amazing to look at…when it is not running on the track.
