Leo Turrini urges Ferrari to focus more on "own car performance and less on Red Bull's budgets"

As usual after each Grand Prix, Italian sports journalist and author Leo Turrini was interviewed by Calciomercato.com to comment on the main events of Formula 1. The Ferrari insider focused on the winner of the Mexican Grand Prix, Max Verstappen, while also sharing his thoughts on the budget cap matter and on Scuderia Ferrari’s difficult moment.

Here are some of his comments:

“Formula 1 is boring again? You’re right, but what can the rest do? Max Verstappen is a phenomenon, led by him Red Bull turns into a missile, especially if you look at Sergio Perez, with him it’s another story. But … the real news is the disappearance of Ferrari. Not expected, like the temperature in Ulaanbaatar in the mariners’ navigation bulletins”.

“For Ferrari, Mexico was the worst race of the 2022 season: the F1-75 cars were slow in qualifying and in the race. Far from Mercedes as well. A disaster across the board. Maybe in Maranello they should care less about Red Bull’s budgets and more about their own car performance”.

“He continues to protest over the agreement between Red Bull and FIA on the violation of the budget cap. Mattia does his job, even if I doubt it was the limit on expenses that caused the sudden disappearance of the magnificent Ferrari which we saw in the spring. And then there is also some irony with this of the situation: in Formula 1 the Agnelli family with Ferrari feel they are victims of a financial trick. While in football with Juventus they are in trouble for the way they managed the capital gains. But let me add one thing. “I don’t think Max Verstappen has won the last two Formula 1 world championships because of clever accounting from Red Bull. And I exclude that Juventus has won nine league titles in a row because they manipulated the budgets. Then there are rules and there are laws and we must always hope for fair play from everybody who is involved in the sport.”
