Leo Turrini, a journalist for Sky Sport F1, commented on the São Paulo GP, addressing various topics, including Charles Leclerc’s frustration during his “toughest moment since he joined Ferrari.”
Leo Turrini’s comments about Charles Leclerc
“Charles Leclerc commented on his retirement before the start, saying he will go to Lourdes; I wish him to get there to Lourdes because with these premises, there’s even reason to doubt it, unfortunately,” he began in a somewhat ironic tone.
He then compared the Monegasque driver to a historic Formula 1 pilot: “I would like to invoke Chris Amon, who drove for Ferrari in the ’60s and systematically encountered inexplicable misfortunes. So much so that one day Mario Andretti said, ‘Amon is so unlucky that if he opened a funeral agency, people would stop dying.’ Well, I believe that Leclerc’s state of mind, at this moment, is this, he also said it [in a team radio message and in the interview].” – the Italian journalist and Ferrari insider pointed out at the end of the Brazilian Grand Prix.
“Charles is very frustrated. You can see it from his attitudes and words. I realize that for Charles Leclerc, perhaps, this is the toughest moment of the 5 years since he joined Ferrari. Even here, on Friday, he had placed the car on the front row, had an excellent qualification in very complicated circumstances, and then he couldn’t even race.”
Regarding Ferrari
“For a technical problem, it didn’t allow Leclerc to participate in the Brazilian GP when he would have started on the front row.”
On Fernando Alonso
“Full marks, a 10. Alonso did something absolutely extraordinary, especially in the final duel against Pérez, but throughout the entire Grand Prix. Keep in mind, sometimes we forget it, seeing how he can still race, that he’s 42 years old.”
Speaking of the much-discussed move to Red Bull, he stated, “I don’t think Red Bull is open to such a solution. It’s a team that is entirely focused on Max; they have a contract with him until 2028. I can’t remember when his last racing error was; his performance is extraordinary, I must say.”

On Sergio Pérez
“He’s in a situation where the other one [Verstappen] always wins, Red Bull always celebrates, but not him.”
On Daniel Ricciardo
“Ricciardo was particularly unlucky, but afterward, he drove very well.”
On the next round of the 2023 Formula 1 championship, the Las Vegas GP:
“I don’t know this new circuit, but it’s nice to remember a piece of history because Formula 1 has already been to Las Vegas. In 1982, Michele Alboreto won with Tyrrell; it was his first career victory and the last for Tyrrell. Let’s hope this victory bodes well for Ferrari.”
