Here’s the analysis from the Formula 1 expert: “Ferrari was never in contention for the victory, not even after the Verstappen-Norris clash.”
“It is melancholically emblematic that on a Sunday when a Red Bull and a McLaren are tearing each other apart, a Mercedes, Russell’s (and not Sir Lewis’s, mind you), takes advantage.” – the Italian journalist pointed out.
“There was not even a distant sign of progress in performance. On the contrary, there is a strong suspicion that the technical solutions adopted are not producing positive effects. Unfortunately, it’s a story that has been told many, many times.” – he added.
“Ferrari, where are you going? I’m sorry, I don’t have an answer. It’s up to Fred Vasseur and his engineers to find one. Quickly, hopefully,” concluded Leo Turrini at the end of the Austrian Grand Prix.
It’s no secret that the 2024 season is not going as Ferrari expected or wanted, especially after the Monaco Grand Prix.
That great result on the streets of Monaco had deluded the environment and the fans, sparking talks about the Formula 1 world title.
Three races after the one in the principality, Ferrari now has to look over its shoulder rather than dream big: McLaren is closing in on the standings and is more competitive on track, thus representing a significant threat in the constructors’ championship.
In short, as Leo Turrini stated, the Maranello team is in desperate need of answers. The nightmare called “we are trying to understand,” which became Mattia Binotto’s motto in recent years, seems to have returned to Ferrari; with the hope that this time the understanding will be quick and effective.
