Ferrari’s double zero at the Chinese GP
“Ferrari, Odyssey in Agony” is the title of Leo Turrini’s latest article on his blog for Quotidiano Nazionale, commenting on the events of the 2025 Chinese GP. His judgment is understandably harsh, coming in the wake of the double disqualification of Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton after an already disappointing race in Shanghai, where they finished fifth and sixth before the stewards intervened.
Leo Turrini’s take on Ferrari 2025
Beyond the dissatisfaction with both the result and the performance, which left Ferrari fans disheartened, Leo Turrini highlights how the SF-25 was already considered problematic within the corridors of Maranello: “I believe the double disqualification is a consequence of the SF-25. It’s a car that was complicated from the start (and that’s an understatement). Extremely difficult to set up. It’s a Rubik’s cube on four wheels. I had already pointed out the internal doubts surrounding the technical solutions adopted for this car.”
Leo Turrini continues: “At the end of 2024, McLaren had the best car. But Ferrari was right there. If you take a new path and after two races have the same points as Williams—no offense—you can’t tell me you’re experimenting for 2026. That’s nonsense. Objectively, the balance so far is disastrous. Without Lewis’ masterpiece in the Sprint, we’d be looking at an emotional tragedy.”
Leo Turrini also criticized those within Ferrari who were surprised by the fans’ backlash following the team’s worst start since the current F1 points system was introduced in 2010: “It’s laughable to be shocked by the extreme reactions to this nightmare start. If you are one of the most famous brands on the planet, a motorsport legend, and you sign the record-breaking driver, an icon, coming off a season where you fought for the title until the last meter of the final race, then of course you’re putting yourself in the spotlight. If, in two weekends, you score just seventeen points, what do you expect? Wine and champagne?”
