Italian journalist and F1 expert Leo Turrini commented on Scuderia Ferrari’s performance, and that of Charles Leclerc, in last weekend’s Dutch Grand Prix on his blog *Profondo Rosso* and on Sky’s ‘Race Anatomy’ show.
Leo Turrini’s words
Here are some of the most important observations made by the Italian journalist after the Zandvoort weekend: “No one believed it on the eve of the race, but we found an ‘Olympic’ Ferrari in the Netherlands, on the podium thanks to Charles Leclerc; who drove one of the best races of his career.” – Leo Turrini pointed out.
“On Saturday, we were all disheartened: we saw a very disappointing Ferrari, 9 tenths off in qualifying on a 70-second circuit…”
“In the Netherlands, we had a confirmation: almost never, in these long years of melancholic drought, has the Red problem been the identity of who gets into the cockpit! Alonso, Vettel, the second Raikkonen stint, have all passed through Maranello, and now we have Carletto [Leclerc] and Carlitos [Sainz]. And a certain Lewis Hamilton is on the way…” – the Italian journalist added.
“What has been lacking over time has been the absolute value of the car. Engineers and managers have come and gone on this carousel, with results rarely matching the level of the drivers. Charles Leclerc’s podium at Zandvoort holds the value of a vague promise looking ahead to Monza, with the recognition of Carlos Sainz’s solid performance as well. This is yet another lesson from the Netherlands: if Leclerc and Sainz had the ‘right’ car in a few days at Monza, well, they would be up there fighting for it. I don’t believe at all that Norris is stronger than Leclerc. It all depends on Ferrari: which was still faster than McLaren in the spring…” concluded Leo Turrini at the end of the Dutch Grand Prix.
