The rain turned qualifying into a real roulette in Las Vegas, and the first major twist of the session involved Lewis Hamilton. The seven-time Formula 1 World Champion was knocked out in Q1 by just one second, penalised by a lack of grip that immediately put him in serious trouble on the slippery street circuit.
His team radio made the situation clear: “I couldn’t get the tyres to work,” Lewis Hamilton told the pit wall. “It was very slippery out there.”
Ferrari, which initially looked competitive on the Las Vegas street layout, now finds itself having to chase from Saturday onward. For Lewis Hamilton, forced to start from the back, the Las Vegas Grand Prix will become a full recovery mission as he attempts to climb back through the field.
