Lando Norris has shared his expectations ahead of the upcoming Las Vegas Grand Prix, a race that could represent Scuderia Ferrari’s last realistic opportunity to fight for victory in the 2025 Formula 1 World Championship.
After extending his lead over his rivals with a flawless weekend in Brazil, the McLaren driver is preparing for another key battle under the lights of Sin City. Ferrari, meanwhile, will be looking to return to the fight at the front. The team from Maranello has historically performed well on the streets of Las Vegas, having claimed two podiums in as many editions of the event since its return to the calendar.
However, this year’s edition may well be Ferrari’s final opportunity to chase a win. Under the guidance of Frédéric Vasseur, the Scuderia has yet to stand on the top step of the podium in a Grand Prix this season — with the only triumph coming courtesy of Lewis Hamilton’s Sprint Race win in Shanghai. For this reason, the team is hoping to arrive in Nevada with a car capable of at least matching the pace of its main competitors, especially as the end of the season draws near.
Norris wary of Ferrari’s potential in Las Vegas
The McLaren driver also acknowledged Ferrari’s potential threat during the post-race press conference at Interlagos. When asked to preview the upcoming race, Lando Norris admitted that the Las Vegas weekend could be one of the toughest for McLaren.
“I expect a more difficult race than this one, for sure. I think it was our worst track last year, so I’m looking forward to seeing how we’ve improved. We’ve worked hard to address the weaknesses we had there. We know that Mercedes was incredibly strong at that circuit last season, as were Red Bull and Ferrari. I think we were the slowest of those four teams. So yes, we’ll wait and see. Obviously, we’ve made big steps forward this year, so I’m not too pessimistic,” Norris explained.
The championship leader added: “There’s definitely a lot to look forward to. We know that Abu Dhabi and Qatar are races where we should be competitive. Las Vegas a bit less, since we’ve struggled there in the last two years. So we’ll just have to wait and see.”
As the season approaches its final stretch, Las Vegas could play a decisive role not only in the title fight but also in Ferrari’s quest to avoid a winless campaign and recover second place in the Constructors’ championship against Mercedes and Red Bull.
