F1 | Norris points the finger at Ferrari’s performance and admits: “Hamilton is the only one who can bounce back”
Lando Norris believes in Lewis Hamilton’s return to form and hopes to fight him wheel-to-wheel on track, but the main obstacle — according to the McLaren driver — is Ferrari’s performance. After winning his first Formula 1 World Championship following a thrilling finale against Oscar Piastri and Max Verstappen, Lando Norris underlined how important a figure like Hamilton is for the sport. Unfortunately, Ferrari’s struggles have prevented the two from battling each other on track this season. Lando’s hope is to find himself racing closely against Lewis far more often in 2026.
The driver of car number 4, who is ready to switch to number 1 next season, openly admitted that he considers Hamilton “the greatest of all time.” Ferrari’s difficulties have complicated the year of the seven-time World Champion, but according to Norris, that won’t stop him from climbing back up. Naturally, Lando was referring to the major opportunity presented by the new regulations coming into force for the season that will begin next January with testing in Barcelona.
Lando Norris believes Lewis is the right person to rise again in 2026
In an interview with Sky Sports, Lando Norris reserved very warm words for Lewis Hamilton, despite the challenging year the Briton has endured with Ferrari. Norris said: “We’ve already had quite a few battles. I would love to race a bit more with Lewis.”
The reason this has not been possible, he explained, is the performance of the SF-25: “Obviously this year Ferrari has struggled a lot more than everyone expected,” the McLaren driver noted. Despite that, he hopes to see his fellow Briton back at his full potential: “Lewis has shown that he is probably the greatest of all time. Everyone knows that if there’s someone who can recover from difficult years, it’s Sir Hamilton, and I’d really love to race against him more often,” he reiterated.
Lando also highlighted during a conference after the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix that he regrets certain things he said in the past about Lewis — and also about Max Verstappen. He was likely referring to earlier statements suggesting that Hamilton’s championship victories with Mercedes were only down to the car. Lando Norris has now stepped back from those comments, elevating Lewis Hamilton as a true legend of the sport.
With McLaren ending the year as constructors’ champions and Lando Norris crowned drivers’ champion, the Briton heads into the off-season fully aware that one of his biggest wishes for the future is simple: more races, more fights, and more moments shared on track with the man he considers the benchmark in Formula 1 history.
