Scuderia Ferrari have opted to promote Charles Leclerc into a coveted race seat alongside Sebastian Vettel this season, with Kimi Raikkonen replacing the Monegasque at Alfa Romeo Racing.
Charles Leclerc is a fine talent, who has shown at Sauber in his rookie season the speed, potential and guile that Ferrari believed he had when they signed him up to their junior programme. The Maranello team considered that was time for young blood in the second car, and Charles is more than ready. In him, Ferrari will have a fast 21-year-old racer who will most likely keep Sebastian Vettel on his toes, and with whom they can look forward to establishing a long and fruitful relationship and maintaining upward momentum.
But what is Kimi’s advice for Charles, based on the Finnish driver’s experience with the Maranello team? – “Honestly, it’s impossible to give an advice” – the former Scuderia Ferrari driver said – “Charles already knows the team for years, he isn’t a driver who comes in a completely new team and he has gained his first Formula 1 experiences. Ferrari is a special place to be, we know, sometimes there may be some moments of confusion and I am convinced that it is always better not to get involved and simply focus on driving and on doing what you have been hired for.” – the 2007 Formula One world champion explained.
How did Kimi do it? – “I’ve always believed it’s better to stay focused on what you need to do and not get involved in anything else. But Charles knows the people well, has already worked with them, so I think he will have no problems.” – Kimi Raikkonen concluded.
