Alfa Romeo Racing Finnish driver Kimi Raikkonen admitted that he will not stop doing dangerous activities just because he is in Formula 1. Well known for loving rallying, motocross and most recently jumping from a building into a swimming pool, the 39-year-old Finn insists that his life away from F1 is up to him.
“I haven’t read my contract because it’s not worth much as far as I am concerned,” he told the Hungarian magazine Vezess when asked if he is prohibited from engaging in dangerous activities – “When I first talked to Alfa Romeo, I told them that if they complain about anything, if they whine, I won’t be here anymore,” Kimi added.
“There are many dangerous things in life,” the 2007 Formula One world champion insisted. “Of course I try to be careful, but I think it’s enough to talk about something if it happens.”
The Finn is, at least according to his Instagram page, loving life with the Ferrari-powered team as he gets to race on weekends and then enjoy life however he wants when he walks away from the track. Kimi Raikkonen is currently under contract until the end of 2020. He said he is not interested in getting involved in the management of the sport once he retires.
“That’s not for me,” he laughed. “Liberty deals with more politics than many countries do.”
Raikkonen’s current Alfa Romeo contract expires at the end of 2020, however, there is a possibility that the Finn, who will be 41 next October, may stick around for 2021. That year Formula 1 is expected to introduce a complete overhaul of the regulations aimed at making the racing closer.
Asked whether he wants a say in the 2021 rules, Kimi Raikkonen replied: “One way or another, everyone has an opinion on the rules, but I don’t know how much of that they take it into account. I know that drivers want to influence the new rules through the GPDA and if they ask me, I will tell them what I think. We’ll see!” – Kimi concluded.
