In a recent interview (for the online version of the Helsingin Sanomat newspaper) in the afternoon sun, Alfa Romeo Racing Finnish driver Kimi Räikkönen seemed very cheerful and liberated: “It’s better to be in a good mood – or would you rather like to see me limping injured?” – Kimi joked.
Kimi will become driver with most GPs in history. Has he considered a possible extension or retirement?
“It hasn’t changed in any direction. Same story as when you last asked. Let’s look at some point. After all I have no contract for next year. Then you see what’s going on.”
So nothing has changed:
“These are things to think about in a year. Right now I still love racing. If my mind changes, I have no trouble staying at home. The gang seems to think that I’ll go crazy if I stay home but the truth is, I enjoy being at home.”
Last week, Kimi sent greetings to his Chinese fans after they were shocked by the news of the cancellation of the Shanghai GP due to the coronavirus. But where did that idea come from?
“Sometimes there are great ideas. It was just encouragement”, Kimi smiled.
Are you worried about the spread of the virus?
Kimi: “I can’t take care of it. I don’t know what the truth is in the end of the day. The papers can’t tell. Is it overdone or not. For the home team I don’t worry because we as a family aren’t going there. And I have not heard that there is anything to worry about in Switzerland because of the virus”
