Kimi Raikkonen interview for motorsport-total.com
At the moment Kimi has “zero interest” to think about a possible retirement from F1. “We now want to finish 2019 well, analyse the year and then prepare for 2020. I never thought so many years ahead. So let’s wait and see.”
Does he even still enjoy it?
Kimi: “I don’t like when things don’t go well. I don’t think that gives anyone pleasure. It’s always been like that in racing. If things go well & the results are right then everyone is satisfied. But sometimes you have races that go better or worse. But that doesn’t mean that I suddenly love or hate Formula 1.” His old age compared to his Formula 1 rivals doesn’t matter. “In the end, it’s a number,” says Räikkönen. “It just sounds different, that’s all.”
“That’s why I’m not proud (about the long career in Formula 1), I don’t think it’s good or bad. I do it simply because it gives me pleasure. If it doesn’t do that anymore, then I have a lot of other things I can do. Now I have my own family, of course it’s changed my life. That is quite normal. If I lived alone, it would be completely different. Now I’m much more worried that everyone is fine.”
Since he is a racing driver himself, he knows even more about the risks in motorsport – no advantage in raising children: “Sometimes it would be better not to know so much, because then you wouldn’t see danger everywhere.” – Kimi explained – “Robin drives more than I expected. Sometimes it can be only 2 laps, sometimes 50. He likes it. Of course he wants to drive more often but sometimes I don’t have time. In Switzerland it’s also not that easy but luckily we found a kart track nearby.” – the Alfa Romeo Finnish driver Kimi Raikkonen concluded.
