Kimi Raikkonen was happy to max out the Alfa Romeo’s potential with P8 at the British Grand Prix. The Finn took his only race win at Silverstone in 2007 with Ferrari, but this time he went into the event with an Alfa Romeo team looking to climb up the Constructors’ Standings.
P8 would give Kimi Raikkonen his third-consecutive points finish, but despite another haul he insisted they were lacking straight-line speed, something fairly unusual for a Ferrari-powered car: “It was the best that we could do. I think the car behaved better in the race, especially in the second part, but we lacked a bit of straight-line speed,” he confessed. Ever the crafty veteran, Raikkonen had a plan to keep up with the cars ahead and fend off attacks coming the other way.
“My best bet was always to get stuck behind somebody with the DRS,” he said with a smile. In the end we had to go faster to keep the Toro Rosso behind. It wasn’t the easiest weekend, but we got some points so it’s good.” – the Finnish driver added at the end of the British Grand Prix.
A DNF for Italian diver Antonio Giovinazzi represented a missed opportunity for the team who are P6 in the Constructors’ after the event in Silverstone.
