Kimi Raikkonen‘s former race engineer David Greenwood, who left Scuderia Ferrari ahead of the 2018 Formula 1 season, was recently interviewed by Finnish newspaper Ilta-Sanomat, discussing about the period during which he worked with the 2007 Formula One world champion.
David Greenwood joined Ferrari for 2015, having held the role of chief engineer at Marussia, and spent the next three seasons working with Kimi Raikkonen. Last season he left the Maranello team for personal reasons and returned to the UK: “I am currently looking for new interesting projects in the field of motor sport. I’m still working with (Manor’s bosses) Graeme Lowdon and John Booth. There are exciting times for change in motorsport, and the rules of F1 and WEC are going to be new. We’re just trying to prepare ourselves for the challenges ahead” – Greenwood said, as reported by Ilta-Sanomat.

Last year, Kimi Räikkönen praised David Greenwood for being the best race engineer he ever worked with. And the appreciation is clearly mutual: “Kimi is by far the best driver with whom I have worked” – said David Greenwood, who during his career has also worked with Fernando Alonso, Giancarlo Fisichella and Jules Bianchi – “There aren’t exactly things I could go deep into details, but he was the best guy I worked with. The relationship with the driver is always very close. It was great with him.” – he added.
David Greenwood, who started his career in the early 2000s in the F1 series, said that he is still keeping in touch with Kimi: “We’re still in contact. Of course, we are not on a daily basis, but every now and then it is nice to hear what he’s been up to” – David Greenwood concluded.
