Colombian racing driver Juan Pablo Montoya, who currently competes in the WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, driving for DragonSpeed in the LMP2 class, shared his thoughts on the duel between Scuderia Ferrari and Red Bull in the first part of the 2022 Formula 1, admitting that the Maranello team has handed important wins to its rival all too easily and urged Ferrari to raise its game in order to be able to continue the battle with Red Bull.
The Italian side had a positive start to the 2022 Formula 1 campaign, with Charles Leclerc who won two out of the first three races this year, in Bahrain and Australia, but have seen their leads in both the championship become deficits, due to a combination of technical issues, mistakes and some bad luck.
Ferrari needs to hit back in the British Grand prix this weekend and attempt to reduce the gap to Red Bull starting with the Silverstone race, as we head towards the midway point of the championship.
In a recent interview for Vegas Insider, former Formula 1 driver Juan Pablo Montoya pointed out that Ferrari have been handing Red Bull wins at times this season, and that needs to be addressed:
“As a team they’re not executing as good as they need to be. That’s what it really comes to. You can say half of the wins of Red Bull have been given away by Ferrari, not won by Red Bull. While Red Bull has won some races by performance, some others is like – ‘really, did you throw this one away as well.’ You’re watching it and you go, how, really? And you can see it coming. I don’t know they’ve got such a fast car and they’re afraid of screwing up, they’re like ‘aaahhhh’” – Juan Pablo Montoya explained.
