During the summer break there was a lot of speculation about the future of Max Verstappen in Formula 1, before the confirmation of the driver’s stay at Red Bull for the 2026 season.
Mercedes confirmed, but not the only one
One of the teams involved in the talks was Mercedes, which contacted Max before confirming Kimi Antonelli and George Russell.
In addition, Max’s father, Jos Verstappen, recently confirmed that the four-time World Champion also held talks with another team: Ferrari.
“This year we have discussed it more than in previous years,” said Jos Verstappen, referring to a possible team change. “We are talking about Ferrari, Mercedes and Red Bull. It is logical. Max and I are evaluating all the possible options, meaning the three top teams, excluding McLaren, that could welcome him.”
The Dutchman can only switch to another team at the end of 2026, but the doors of the biggest names in Formula 1 seem to be open for him. Next year there will also be a major change in the technical regulations of the sport, giving the champion the opportunity to bet on the most competitive car.
That being said, throughout a season new dynamics between teams and drivers can always emerge. For example, the contract renewal of Lewis Hamilton for 2027 is not guaranteed at all and will depend entirely on performance.
