An accusation has arrived against Lewis Hamilton after the penalty he received in Singapore, as former driver Johnny Herbert shared his controversial opinion about the British star.
Five days have passed since the Singapore Grand Prix weekend, one that proved particularly difficult for Ferrari. On Sunday, the situation was further stirred by the penalty given to Lewis Hamilton after the race, which dropped him to eighth place. According to former Formula 1 driver Johnny Herbert, the penalty imposed on the British driver was completely justified. Here is Herbert’s accusation against Hamilton.
Herbert accuses Hamilton: “You can’t cheat like that, he got what he deserved”
Johnny Herbert, former driver and FIA steward until just a few races ago, launched a harsh criticism at Hamilton. In an interview with Betting Lounge, he explained that he considered the stewards’ decision to give a penalty for cutting corners more than fair.
“It was the right thing to do to give Lewis that penalty because he cut a few corners and therefore didn’t have to brake. He got what he deserved,” he stated.
Turning his attention to Fernando Alonso and his anger, Herbert continued to defend his position. “The stewards made the right decision. Fernando definitely made sure the stewards were well aware of his frustration. But I think it was quite clear that Lewis was taking a few too many liberties to be able to finish the race.”
“You can’t take those kinds of liberties, you can’t cheat like that. Very Fernando, getting on his white horse, shouting and protesting!”
Finally, Johnny Herbert concluded by saying that Alonso is still at the top of his game and remains fully motivated to perform well. “That’s what we all expect from Fernando — he’s had that competitiveness since his very first Grand Prix in Formula 1, so many years ago. Alonso is not done yet. He’s still capable of delivering fantastic races. Singapore is very hot and humid, a really tough track, but that’s exactly where you get the best out of Fernando once again. So he’s absolutely right.”
