Ferrari ended the 2025 Formula 1 season without a single Grand Prix victory, something that had not happened since 2021. The only success for the Scuderia came in the Sprint race in China, won by Lewis Hamilton, a result that did little to mask an otherwise disappointing campaign for the Maranello-based team.
In recent years, Ferrari had shown clear signs of progress. In 2023, the Scuderia was the only team capable of winning a race in a season dominated by Red Bull. In both 2022 and 2024, Ferrari finished second in the Constructors’ Championship, fighting for the teams’ world title with McLaren until the final race just one year ago.
This season, however, precisely when it seemed that Ferrari was ready to make the decisive step forward and finally end a title drought that has lasted since 2008, a sharp setback arrived in the final year of the current technical cycle. The Scuderia concluded the championship in fourth place and failed to secure a single Grand Prix victory, with the only moment on the top step of the podium coming during Lewis Hamilton’s Sprint race win in China.
A flop that inevitably places Ferrari under heavy scrutiny, at least according to the verdict of Johnny Herbert. The former Formula 1 driver did not hide his disappointment when assessing the Italian team’s performance throughout the year.
What the former driver said
“Ferrari is the disappointment of 2025,” Herbert said when speaking to NewBettingSites. “Expectations are always extremely high, but in the end, for some reason, the team fails to find the right situation or the right ingredients, whether it is the car, the power unit, the internal structure or the strategic decisions.”
Herbert was keen to underline that the issue does not lie with the drivers themselves. “The drivers are unquestionable,” he added, pointing out that the talent line-up at Ferrari is not in doubt despite the lack of results on track.
Looking ahead, the former British driver expressed hope that the upcoming regulatory overhaul could offer Ferrari a fresh opportunity to return to the front of the grid. “I hope that with the new rules in 2026 Ferrari will be back in the fight,” Johnny Herbert concluded.
