Ferrari makes history at Le Mans
50 years after their last appearance in the top class and 58 years since their last victory in the premier class, Ferrari has once again made a strong statement at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The Italian side won in the Hypercar class, the most important class, with the #51 499P driven by James Calado, Alessandro Pier Guidi, and Antonio Giovinazzi.
The Hypercar project was strongly desired by President John Elkann, and together with Antonello Coletta and the “father” of the 499P, Ferdinando Cannizzo, they shaped a team capable of immediately securing pole position and a podium finish upon their return to the top class of the World Endurance Championship (WEC) at Sebring in Florida in March.
Three months later, the most coveted victory has arrived, a prestigious win that once again shines the spotlight on Ferrari, bringing great glory to this legendary brand.
The emotion of John Elkann
“We have waited 50 years to come back, it’s an extraordinary adventure for all of us Ferrari enthusiasts,” said the President of the Prancing Horse. “Ferrari has shown at Le Mans with the 499P that we give our maximum, our best, and demonstrate how a united group of great experience but also great talent has not only managed to become competitive again but also to win after 50 years.”

“Undoubtedly, Antonello Coletta, along with Amato Ferrari and all the people who work with them, has shown this tremendous passion that exists within Ferrari,” added John Elkann. “Passion that was felt not only among those who were able to be here at Le Mans but among all those who love motorsport. The most beautiful thing in life is when you can live your dreams. The emotions they have given to our tifosi on a great day that brings together past, present and future, is also a reminder of the importance of finding the courage and the humility to always improve.” concluded the number one of Ferrari, who was able to experience firsthand the success of the Prancing Horse in the emblematic endurance race of motorsport.
