John Elkann shares optimism about Ferrari’s 2022 F1 season and endurance racing. John Elkann on Ferrari's 2022 F1 season and endurance racing.

Ferrari’s excellent start to the 2022 Formula 1 season has been met with enthusiasm or at least unanimous approval, even from the Scuderia’s rivals, who recognized the great work done in Maranello ahead of the 2022 F1 campaign. However, the official voice of the top management, namely the Chief Executive Officer Benedetto Vigna and the Chairman John Elkann, had been missing so far. It was a situation which has been interpreted in various ways, including that of not wanting to steal the show from those who have materially worked day and night to make sure Ferrari can return to the top this season.

On the first official occasion, the Shareholders’ Meeting, John Elkann made the first public comments, talking about the Italian side’s start of the season, while also discussing the company’s 2021 overall situation. John Elkann obviously underlining the work done at the Racing Department which allowed the team to return to the top of Formula 1. “Two years ago we said that we would have to work hard to get back to being competitive – underlined the President – and after two difficult seasons the 2022 Championship has started in an exciting way. Like all our fans around the world, I am happy to be back competing at the highest level.” – he added.

“Having said that, we know that the season has just begun and that in Formula 1 we are always surrounded by fierce competitors. We have to work tirelessly as a team to optimize every aspect of our performance. This is the spirit and approach that I can’t wait to see at Imola and over the course of the season”, continued John Elkann, who also talked about the Gran Turismo programs:” 2021 was for Ferrari the best season ever in the GT races, with the victory of the Drivers and Constructors world titles in the FIA World Endurance Championship and with the victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans “.

“Last year we further demonstrated our commitment to endurance racing by announcing the expected return to the premier class of the FIA World Endurance Championship in 2023 with our Le Mans Hypercar program. In the digital world, too, we have attracted a new audience of passionate fans with the Ferrari Esports Series, creating new bonds with a new generation of young fans across Europe.” – he continued.

John Elkann then highlighted the progress in series production on the road to electrification: “In terms of products, last year we launched four new models, including the 296 GTB, a new PHEV (plug-in hybrid) model equipped with a new V6 engine coupled to an electric motor. A car that received unanimous praise from journalists around the world following the International Media Test Drive held earlier this year. The 296 GTB, the third hybrid model in our range after the SF90 Stradale and the SF90 Spider, marks a further step forward in our electrification journey. This year we celebrate our 75th anniversary, a true milestone in the history of our company, and I would like to take a moment to thank the women and men who work for Ferrari. Their passion, spirit of competition and desire relentlessly innovating have always guided our constant pursuit of performance on the road, on the track and beyond. So it is now and so it will be in the coming decades.” – the Ferrari President concluded.
