Home » John Elkann on Adrian Newey joining Ferrari: “We must find the right moment, just like with Hamilton”

John Elkann on Adrian Newey joining Ferrari: “We must find the right moment, just like with Hamilton”. Ferrari chairman John Elkann on Adrian Newey possibly joining Ferrari.

John Elkann continues to stir the spirits of Ferrari fans: Will Adrian Newey come to Maranello or not? This is the question many have been asking ever since the aerodynamics genius announced his departure from Red Bull.

Since then, his name has been linked to Ferrari and Aston Martin, amid offers and details about the alleged mega contract. Reports from England say the deal is done: the engineer will land in Maranello. Yet, there is no official confirmation.

In today’s edition of the Italian newspaper Il Corriere della Sera, Ferrari chairman John Elkann revisited the Adrian Newey matter. “There are many evaluations to be made, and we must be careful,” he said in the interview.

Comparing the hiring of the British engineer to that of Lewis Hamilton, John Elkann stated: “The right moment to do things must be found, as happened with Lewis Hamilton. With him, there was a convergence of intentions that allowed us to work together.” – the Chief Executive Officer of Exor pointed out.

The Adrian Newey operation is clearly not simple. The Ferrari president asserted that “there are many possibilities,” whether it involves the Red Bull technical director “or others.” In any case, “it is necessary to carefully assess whether the conditions are right.”

For hiring high-level individuals, according to John Elkann, “it is essential to understand their level of motivation and their ability to create new things rather than replicate existing ones.” This is how he concluded his interview with Il Corriere della Sera.

In short, despite what the newspapers are writing, Adrian Newey has not yet signed with Ferrari or any other Formula 1 team. Awaiting further developments, all attention is also on the driver market for 2025.
