Jenson Button has spoken about Lewis Hamilton’s move to Scuderia Ferrari, which will take place starting with the 2025 Formula 1 championship, revealing what he would say to his former teammate.
Jenson Button’s comments
This is the comment from the 2009 F1 world champion, given in a recent episode of the Sky Sports F1 Podcast: “It’s fantastic to see Lewis [Hamilton] move from Mercedes, which has given him all these world titles, to Ferrari.” – he said.
“It was unexpected, but it’s something we will talk about forever. [Hamilton] is one of the best I’ve ever seen driving a race car, I’ve seen it firsthand because we were teammates for 3 years. To have that self-confidence to go to Ferrari and face someone like Charles [Leclerc]… I would say ‘Well done, Lewis’; because when we were teammates, he didn’t have that confidence. Now he does, and he’s a complete driver, confident and seeking a new challenge, which is what we need as drivers. I believe Lewis himself needed it,” Jenson Button concluded.
A significant challenge
The challenge accepted by Lewis Hamilton is considerable: the pressure of bringing Ferrari back to the top of the world will also weigh on him. Moreover, he will have to face Charles Leclerc as a new driver in Ferrari, while the Monegasque is an important figure in the Italian side and has been established in Maranello for several years now.
